About Echelon Donates

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Since my first charity birthday drive, I have partnered with Sophie in Greece (@30STMVOTE) to create Echelon Donates, where The Echelon Gives Back. What we do is feature a charity that is close to the band members' heart & promote it. No funds are filtered through us. All proceeds are donated directly to the charity.

I thank you for joining in my dream & making this bigger than I could ever hope for.

Sincerely,

Alicia Zen

The Inspiration for Echelon Donates - An Echelons Story

Jared Leto wasn't the only one inspired on his trip to Haiti in December 2010. Who would have thought this video would be the launching pad for making a difference & not just wishing for things to change.

Listening to music (especially 30 Seconds To Mars music) has always been inspiring. Besides the music moving me I have also been moved by their fans. Seeing Lily from @TheEchelonHouse using the force of the Echelon to raise funds for Habitat For Humanity made me want to do more.

In August I headed a project where the fans of 30 Seconds To Mars raised enough money to have trees planted in the Angeles National Forest through an organization I've supported for many years, TreePeople.org for Tomo Milicevic's birthday. We raised enough money to have 36 trees planted in his name.

I could not do this without the help of the Echelon. There are so many who help focus my ideas & I'd like to thank you; you know who you are.

I thank you for joining in my dream & making this bigger than I could ever hope for.

Sincerely,
Alicia Zen

Trees Planted in Haiti: Birthday Gift From The Echelon to Jared Leto

About The Project:

Currently in Haiti less than 2% of their natural forest is still in existence. Trees are the primary source of fuel & food for the impoverished country. Timberland Shoes has partnered with Yele Haiti, Trees For The Future & Green Network to have a million trees planted annually in Haiti by Haitians. You can learn more about their commitment at http://community.timberland.com/haiti.

We are currently working with Timberland in how we are to manage the donations. We may direct the fans to the donation link for Trees For The Future. This is still being worked out but again, no funds will be filtered through Echelon Donates.

The plan of attack is this:

*A full month prior to Jared's birthday, the project will be launched
*FaceBook event page will be created to manage who gave donations & to answer any questions
*3 Echelon blogs have confirmed posting the story on their sites at different times to promote the project
*Tumblr campaign will also be launched in conjunction with the twitter campaign headed by several Echelon champions like Sophie in Greece (@30STMVOTE) who is also the co-chair for this project, MarsArmy vs. Hunger (@AllEchelonHelp &@AllEchelonHelp2), Maria in Italy (@MariaJEchelon), Life On Mars Portugal & many others.
*Worldwide Echelon will reach out to their local radio stations to help promote the project. KROQ in Los Angeles & Radio 105 in the Bay area retweeted a few times the Tomo Birthday Tree Planting Project.

Our goal this time is more direct. We will be creating an email that will be sent to the stations asking them to post the project onto the radios website, to help tweet about the project & our ultimate goal is to have them mention it on the air.

With a collaborative effort with the Echelon we hope to raise a sizable amount of funds to aid the environment, inject much needed funds into the Haitian economy & help the Haitians provide for themselves.

The Mission:
We need your help. Please get the names & email addresses for either the Promotions or the Marketing Director of the local radio stations that play 30 Seconds To Mars. You can email the information to Sophie at vote30stm@yahoo.com. We will be mailing them to see if they will post the story on their website to help get the word out to increase donations.

We all have high hopes for this project & with your help we can make a large positive impact to help the people of Haiti.

Being an Echelon Eco-Warrior - Giving Back Can Be Simple

There are so many little ways we can give back to help the planet, and save your pocket book at the same time, so here are a few simple tips you can do on your own that will help make a positive impact.

Dishwashers vs. Hand Washing:
If think that by running the dishwasher with a full load versus washing a sink full of dishes you'd use more water and energy, SURPRISE! It's more cost effective and uses less water/energy to wash your dishes in an Energy Saver dishwasher.

Be an Eco Warrior And Fashionable At The Same Time:
A tip tweeted by @oggyno (also the inspiration behind this post) says use reusable bags when going shopping, even though today grocery bags are being recycled, it is still more cost effective and eco smart to use reusable bags.

You can even sport your Echelon pride while being Eco-Minded when shopping.  @MARSStore has the Thirty Seconds To Mars - Head Shot Tote Bag for $15.00 that can be used to tote around your groceries, books or even when you're buying stuff at the mall!

Music Can Help You Save Water:
This AWESOME tip came from my Mars enabler @werewolf1234567. Her tip in helping the planet is to make a 15 minute music play list to limit the amount of time in the shower.

I always have my MP3 player going when in the shower. The only tough thing about this is to decide what songs to place on the list!

Not All Vampires Are Cool:
Brad Pitt, Robert Pattinson and Jared Leto are all hot sexy vampires, yes, but leaving appliances plugged in are vampire appliances, which is not cool.

Leaving your cell phone charger plugged into the wall will actually suck energy even if your phone is not connected. This goes for other appliances left plugged in such as your computer, toaster oven, coffee pot, and the major culprit (which I over looked until recently) the microwave. Thanks to an interview done by @ablorg with Tomo I am unplugging my microwave when it's not in use. I don't use it often except to nuke a corn dog once in a while, or occasionally reheat leftovers, but kept it plugged in 24/7

Turn off the lights when the room is not in use:
This one is a pet peeve of mine, when someone walks out of a room for a long period of time and leaves the radio on, fan blowing and all the lights on in the room, but then goes into the living room to watch TV.

When not in the room turn off the lights and other electronics. You will be saving money, electricity and reducing your carbon footprint.

As @oggyno said when giving this tip is to remember "Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark"
